Life’s too short, esp. for ugly falsehoods.

Somehow in the shock of what has happened it feels as if I just met Elise, and now she is gone. But actually there were 36 wonderful years in between, in which my life was lit up by Elise’s intellect, love and energy. She was deeply thematic, able to get, with remarkable ease, to the essence of things. Truth, beauty and our family and four children were her great themes. She always told me that truth and beauty were ultimately the same thing, and that one day I would understand that.
